Early Life

Ani Lorak was born on 27 September 1978. Ani Lorak’s upbringing was notably difficult, which she subsequently stated helped to mold her personality. In the western Ukrainian province of Chernivtsi, in the little town of Kitsman, Lorak was born.

She shared a home with singer and composer Volodymyr Ivasyuk, who was known as the Hero of Ukraine. Lorak’s maternal grandfather had acquired the home from the Ivasyuks after they decided to leave Kitsman.  Her mother decided to give Lorak her father’s last name even though her parents, an announcer and a journalist, had already divorced before she was born.

Since Ani was four years old, Lorak has wanted to be a singer. She frequently gave vocal performances at various school competitions. She spent a lot of her early years listening to popular Russian vocalists like Alla Pugacheva and Larisa Dolina.

Lorak was reared by a single mother and is a native Ukrainian speaker. The family left Kitsman after a number of years and relocated to Chernivtsi, where they lived in abject poverty. She and her siblings were placed in a Chernivtsi foster home from the time she was six years old to the seventh grade since their mother was unable to care for them full-time. During the Soviet-Afghan War, when she was nine years old, her oldest brother Serhii was killed in action.  To get money to get Lorak and her two brothers out of the foster home, Lorak’s older brother had traveled there.

Additionally, Serhii was the first to see her musical aptitude. Lorak was shocked when the family was finally offered an apartment in Chernivtsi.

Career

Loark entered and won the Chernivtsi singing competition Pervotsvit in 1992 when she was just 13 years old. She met her first producer there, Yuriy Falyosa, there. She thus signed her first professional contract, which was for ten years, at the age of 15. She was not allowed to be married or have children during that time period because it was against her contract obligations.

As a result of her participation in the well-known children’s music television program Morning Star on Channel One Russia, Kuiek started going by the stage name Ani Lorak in March 1995. She had planned to perform there under the name Karolina, but was advised against it because it was already being used by a well-known singer from Russia at the time.

Beginning in the year 1999, Lorak embarked on her first lengthy and international tour, giving performances in every significant Ukrainian city as well as in the United States, France, Germany, and Hungary. She was named the Honoured Artist of Ukraine in 1999. She met Igor Krutoy that same year, who wrote the song “Zerkala” for her, giving her additional early notoriety in Russia.

She released her eighth album, “Rozkazhi,” in 2006, which was entirely in Ukrainian. Lorak terminated her relationship with producer Falyosa shortly after the album’s release and began working with Konstantin Meladze. The same year, Lorak and Valery Meladze collaborated on a song that went on to become his first Russian radio hit. She released the album 15, which is entirely in Russian with the exception of one English song, in 2007 to commemorate her fifteenth year as an artist. The partnership with Meladze, however, was short-lived, leaving Lorak without a producer.

In 2013, Lorak traveled back to Greece to work with Kontopoulos on the fourteenth “Zazhigay serdtse.” Several tracks on the CD were also written by Diana Golde and Ruslan Kvinta. Lorak served as a coach for “Holos Krainy Fourths season from March to June 2014. She mentored singer Mykyta Aliekieiev during this season, launching his career in the process.

The DIVA tour, which Lorak launched at the beginning of 2018, was well-received by music critics. In 2020, a live CD and a tour recording were made available.  Lorak started coaching The Voice of Russia’s seventh season in the fall of 2018.

She appeared on an episode of Sud’ba cheloveka on Russia-1 in 2021, during which she presented a rare overview of her personal and professional past.

Personal Life

On August 21, 2009, Lorak wed her manager and long term Turkish fiancé Murat Nalçacolu, whom she had first met while on vacation in Turkey in 2003.  Turkish hotel manager and travel advisor Murat Nalçacolu.

At the end of November 2010, Lorak announced the news of her pregnancy. On June 9, 2011, their daughter Sophia was born. She had a home outside of Kyiv, Ukraine, where she and her family resided, but they frequently visited Turkey. In January 2019, the couple’s marriage was formally dissolved. She is single now.
