Early life
On November 1, 1972, McCarthy was born at Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park, Illinois, a southwest Chicago suburb. She is of German, Irish, and Polish descent and was born into a working-class Catholic family. She lived in Chicago’s West Elsdon neighbourhood. Jenny is the second of four daughters; her sisters are Lynette, Joanne, and Amy, and her cousin is actress Melissa McCarthy. Linda McCarthy, McCarthy’s mother, was a homemaker and courthouse custodian, and Dan McCarthy, McCarthy’s father, was a steel mill foreman.
McCarthy was a cheerleader at both Brother Rice High School and St. Laurence High School as a teenager, though she has described herself as an “outcast” at her school and has stated that classmates repeatedly bullied her.
