Adriana Lima had won many beauty pageants in elementary school, but she never thought about being a model. One of her school friends wanted to participate in a modeling contest along with her, so Lima entered with her. They both sent in pictures. The contest sponsor selected Lima for the contest. Soon after, she entered the modeling contest. She finished in first place in Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” at the age of 15. Later she entered the 1996 Ford Models Supermodel of the World contest.
She took second place there. Lima moved to New York City after one year and signed with Elite Model Management.In September 1997. Lima made her runway debut at Anna Sui’s New York Fashion Week show. Later she worked with many well-known brands like Victoria’s Secret, Louis Vuitton, Betsey Jhonson, Baby Phat, Rosa Cha, Forum, Prada, Fendi and many more. She became a GUESS girl in 2000 and appeared in their fall ad campaign. Lima earned the fourth position on the Forbes top earning models list.
